-smart lesson should take advantage of qualities the smart has that are not present by traditional means

skeptic

  • How does this reading impact your thinking about technology's role in teaching and learning?

  •    Most Students in high school will not go on to collage. From my own experience i didn't use much technology beyond a word possessor before i got to collage. Jobs i had like night clerk at a hotel and waiting tables at a restaurant that used computers were very basic and taught to me at work. A lot of the jobs available to to people with a high school diploma aren't that technically demanding. McDonald's has pictures of the food on the buttons and provides in house training. This chapter gave many other reasons that technology doesn't work so well in school despite how much it could. Practical reasons like access and cost are barriers that schools are not yet equipped to deal with. If schools got all the money the defence department gets then  every student would have a computer and a new one every year stocked with the best education tools and software available, but it's not likely to happen. The technology that schools have should be used to the up most, but students cant be expected to use what they don't have easy access to.

  • What will you do differently as a future teacher as a direct result of this new thinking?

  •   As Far as technology is concerned I will try and get as much for my students as is available to them and use it as much as possible in my classes. I will not expect that my students have any access to computers and other learning technology outside of the school and the class time they are provided. I will try and stretch my class budget as far as i could to provide my students with technology in the classroom. I will do the most with the materials i am given and try incorporate technology in class in any way i can.

-technology is a intergral part of many students lives and is becoming a bigger and bigger part of their education.
-for a presentation: say what your going to tell, tell it , say what you told.
-smart exchange is a good resourse for teachers using smart boards
-can use jepordy template off smart for edphyc
-have a back up plan when technology dont work

    Exit slip sept. 16

as a teacher i should strive for my students to aquire the abilities to be life long learners. i shouldent just focuse on what they need to know for the year i have them, but for there future classes career and life.

    evaluating websites

I think that the 5w technique is a very helpful  in determining the quality of information on a website.

who- look at the author of the site and references they use and the sponsor of the site.
in the Dr. King page the writing was from a very racist perspective and then i saw that one of the references was David Duke. He was the grand wizard of the KKK one of the biggest cranks in the world, his views are hateful and byest.
what-the reason for the site should be investigated for instance the tree octopus site was sponsored by "Kelvinic University branch of the Wild Haggis Conservation Society". with further looking this accreditation takes u to a spoof/joke site. the information on the site is meant for purely entertainment purposes and does not match any other information on octopus's.

where- is the information from? on the explorer page it say this is for educational purposes, to teach students about web site validity. The info on explores is dubious but there references are quality. when comparing the info on the site to others you can tell that while other sites have very similar info this one if way off.

why- why is this site around? the DHMO site was about water. at the top of the page they give a fake gov office as accreditation. the site is there to sell t-shirts not to present an actual problem. information on this site is only on this site.

when- an honest site could give u bad information even if that wasn't their purpose. Science information is constantly advancing and changing once we have a better theory we drop the old ones. if a site hasn't been updated in years the information might be dated and no longer correct.

    Rethinking Education ch.1

  • How does this reading impact your thinking about technology's role in teaching and learning?

  • I don't use technology for recreational purposes very often. In my high school we didn't have much to work with as our one computer lab was not hooked to the Internet and the computers were dated even then. My family is poor and we didn't have a computer or any video game systems. so i didn't grow up very technically inclined. In college i have used computers for all my classes and has become integral to my education. i have no predigest against technology and can use it competently. The technology that is available to the students in the school i teach will be used in order to enhance the students learning experience. I will not expect my student to have prior experience or easy access to any technology outside of class.

  • What will you do differently as a future teacher as a direct result of this new thinking?

  • I have seen in college how helpful technology can be in a science classroom and can see the need for all students to have experience with computers and other technology for there future careers. Weather or not my students go on to a higher education or not i think that better understanding of technology will help students become better informed voters. Any tools that can help a student understand the content in class should be used to the upmost. Technology is a bigger and bigger part of everyday life so its use should begin early and often in the class room.

    Autobiography

    http://www.photoshow.com/watch/ZY9tp3EN

•How much effort did you exert on this task?
A fair amount of effort was put into this project.Ii dont have many pictures so finding for some was a challange. Photoshow was very easy to use and putting it together was much easier than i thought it would be.

•What is the value in completing this course task?
I'm am always nervouse using new technologies, but once i start doing it i realize it isent usually as difficult as i imagined it to be. I am more and more comfortable usuing new technology. I am interested what the young people are up to with their bloggong and picture sharing now i have a better idea.

•How does completing this course task impact your future teaching?
The older I get the less and less in touch with the students I get. Being able to keep up with some of the computer socialising people do will help me understand my future students. Hopefully I will be able to interest more students to the material taught by incorperating new technology like this in my classes  .

    What is technology?

    1. Technology- a mechanical tool created to make tasks simpler and more easily achived.
    2. Technology in the class can be used to better understand the materiel being taught and prepare students for their future careers. A microscope in a biology class is a piece of technology that helps students better understand the world around them. It has a magnified eye piece with a viewing platform; you set it on a smooth solid surface like a table. Class room microscopes are under 2 ft. tall with one to two eyepieces , there are many dials to adjust the viewing, they control the distance from magnifier to platform, the level of magnification, and the light aperture.
