skeptic

  • How does this reading impact your thinking about technology's role in teaching and learning?

  •    Most Students in high school will not go on to collage. From my own experience i didn't use much technology beyond a word possessor before i got to collage. Jobs i had like night clerk at a hotel and waiting tables at a restaurant that used computers were very basic and taught to me at work. A lot of the jobs available to to people with a high school diploma aren't that technically demanding. McDonald's has pictures of the food on the buttons and provides in house training. This chapter gave many other reasons that technology doesn't work so well in school despite how much it could. Practical reasons like access and cost are barriers that schools are not yet equipped to deal with. If schools got all the money the defence department gets then  every student would have a computer and a new one every year stocked with the best education tools and software available, but it's not likely to happen. The technology that schools have should be used to the up most, but students cant be expected to use what they don't have easy access to.

  • What will you do differently as a future teacher as a direct result of this new thinking?

  •   As Far as technology is concerned I will try and get as much for my students as is available to them and use it as much as possible in my classes. I will not expect that my students have any access to computers and other learning technology outside of the school and the class time they are provided. I will try and stretch my class budget as far as i could to provide my students with technology in the classroom. I will do the most with the materials i am given and try incorporate technology in class in any way i can.
